What Disney Touches Turns To Gold

It’s official. Disney is taking over the world of entertainment. After securing 20th Century Fox, Disney has officially revealed that its streaming service, Disney+, will launch on November 12th, 2019 for only $6.99 a month. As if owning what feels like everything isn’t enough, they’re topping the box office with every hit they release. Whether it is a remake of an old classic or the latest Marvel movie, Disney is ruling the market. The list below consists of 5 movies Disney has coming out this summer that are projected to keep them on top. You won’t want to miss the buzz on these.

The Lion King

The Lion King
Release Date: July 19th
Cast: Donald Glover, Beyoncé, Billy Eichner, James Earl Jones
Directed by: Jon Favreau (The Jungle Book)

Synopsis: We all know the story line of The Lion King- it’s a Disney classic. In the film, we follow Simba, a young lion, who flees his kingdom after his Uncle kills his father by luring them into a stampede of wildebeests. Simba returns to the kingdom as an adult with plans to take back his homeland from his evil uncle, Scar. In the remake that hits theaters on July 19th, Disney far surpassed everyone’s expectations, making it, as Wired states, the VR-fueled future of cinema.

“The Lion King was filmed entirely in virtual reality (well, save a single photographed shot). All the locations you know from the original—Pride Rock, the elephant graveyard, Rafiki’s Ancient Tree—exist, but not as practical sets or files confined to an animator’s computer. They live inside a kind of filmmaking videogame as 360-degree virtual environments, full of digitized animals, around which Favreau and his crew could roam.” – Peter Rubin, Wired

The New Mutants

The New Mutants
Release Date: August 2nd
Cast: Anya Taylor-Joy, Maisie Williams, Charlie Heaton, Henry Zaga
Directed by: Josh Boone (The Fault in Our Stars)

Synopsis: With an all-star cast, including Game of Thrones star, Maisie Williams, The New Mutants is a horror-tinged spin-off from the X-Men series. It will follow young mutants around as they begin to learn about their new abilities and how to use them. While the storyline is promising, it is currently stuck in limbo because of the recent sale of 20th Century Fox to Disney. While we know that the August release date could be pushed, we also know that everything Disney touches turns to gold- so any changes will only enhance what should already be a great movie.
